Goal 5. Gender Equality
According to a report by The World Bank, women make up less than 40% of the total global workforce. Adeva IT in a 2018 report found that women held only 25% of all the jobs in the tech industry, despite women making up almost half of the total workforce. An important reason why there is a low number of women in the tech sector compared to others is that girls are not readily interested in studying Science Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Boys are more likely to go that route.
This is backed by a Women in Tech report by PwC which discovered that among students involved in its research, more boys went for STEM subjects than girls except for biology. Therefore, it is now important more than ever to close the gender gap both in developed and developing economies.
Zwart Talent Foundation is profoundly contributing to the engagement of more women in tech. The foundation is doing this by reserving 70% of admission into the Zwart Academy, the ed-tech arm of ZwartTalent for women.
